A Fun Itinerary

NOV 8th TO Nov 17TH, 2026

Goodmate Travel designed this journey to explore several regions of Japan in a thoughtful and comfortable way.

The itinerary balances guided cultural experiences with relaxed free time, allowing travelers to experience Japan at a natural pace while still discovering its most meaningful places.

  • Arrive in Tokyo and check in to our hotel near Shinjuku at your own pace.

In the evening, we gather for a relaxed welcome dinner, where you’ll meet your fellow travelers and your Goodmate host. This first evening is designed to help everyone settle in, connect with the group, and feel comfortable before the journey begins.

Over dinner, your host will introduce the flow of the trip, basic Japan travel etiquette, transportation tips, and cultural expectations that will help you enjoy the country with confidence and respect.

    Meals included: Dinner

  • Begin the day at Meiji Shrine, a peaceful forest sanctuary in the middle of Tokyo. Here, we explore Shinto beliefs and how nature, ritual, and quiet structure continue to shape Japanese culture.

After lunch near Harajuku, we take time to experience Tokyo beyond the obvious highlights. You may explore neighborhoods such as Daikanyama, known for its cafés, bookstores, design shops, and calm lifestyle atmosphere - a quieter side of Tokyo that shows how local people spend their everyday time.

In the evening, experience Tokyo after dark through a guided cultural walk and dinner in Shinjuku. Rather than simply passing through the bright lights, we’ll look at how food, nightlife, small streets, and local routines create the rhythm of the city.

    Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Spend the morning in Asakusa, one of Tokyo’s most historic neighborhoods. Around Senso-ji Temple and Nakamise Street, we explore temple customs, old shopping streets, and the atmosphere of traditional Tokyo that still survives within the modern city.

Later, join a hands-on sushi-making experience and learn about the balance, simplicity, and attention to detail that shape Japanese food culture. It’s not just about making sushi — it’s a chance to understand how Japanese cuisine values seasonality, precision, and presentation.

The afternoon is flexible, allowing you to explore Tokyo independently. You may visit Ginza for design and shopping, Ueno for museums and parks, or a quieter café neighborhood for a slower local afternoon.

    Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

  • Before leaving Tokyo, explore Tsukiji Outer Market and learn about seasonal ingredients, seafood culture, street food, and the daily energy behind Japan’s food scene.

Later, travel to Hakone by train, leaving the pace of Tokyo behind and entering a region known for mountains, hot springs, and slower travel. This transition is an important part of the journey — from city rhythm to nature, rest, and traditional hospitality.

In the evening, enjoy a traditional ryokan stay with onsen bathing and a seasonal kaiseki dinner. Your host will explain basic onsen etiquette and the meaning behind the ryokan experience, so you can enjoy this deeply Japanese form of hospitality with ease.

    Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

  • After breakfast, we travel by train and shinkansen to Kanazawa, a city known for its preserved historic districts, refined craft traditions, and slower elegance.

Upon arrival, explore the Nagamachi Samurai District. Walking through narrow lanes, earthen walls, and former samurai residences, we learn about the lifestyle, values, and discipline of the samurai era - and how that sense of order and restraint still echoes in Japanese culture today.

The evening is free to rest or enjoy dinner at your own pace. Your Goodmate host will share local restaurant recommendations for those who want to explore Kanazawa’s food scene.

    Meals included: Breakfast

  • Visit Kenrokuen Garden, one of Japan’s most celebrated landscape gardens. Rather than seeing it only as a beautiful garden, we explore how Japanese garden design reflects balance, seasonality, patience, and the art of creating natural beauty with intention.

We then continue into Kanazawa’s cultural heritage through a traditional tea experience and a gold leaf craft workshop led by a local artisan. Kanazawa is famous for its gold leaf production, and this hands-on experience offers a closer look at the city’s delicate craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Depending on timing, we may also explore one of Kanazawa’s atmospheric historic districts, where old teahouses, narrow streets, and local shops reveal the city’s quiet charm.

In the evening, gather for dinner featuring regional flavors and seasonal ingredients.

    Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

  • Travel to Kyoto, Japan’s former imperial capital and one of the most culturally rich cities in the country.

After arrival, we explore the historic Gion district with a cultural guide. Walking through traditional streets, quiet canals, wooden townhouses, and lantern-lit alleys, we learn about Kyoto’s atmosphere, geiko and maiko culture, local etiquette, and the importance of moving through these historic spaces with respect.

This day is designed as a gentle entrance into Kyoto — not rushed, but atmospheric. It marks the beginning of the final chapter of the journey, where beauty is found in smaller details: narrow streets, evening light, temple gates, and quiet conversations.

    Meals included: Breakfast

  • Start the morning at the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove before the crowds arrive. This early visit gives us time to experience one of Kyoto’s most iconic landscapes in a calmer and more reflective way.

We continue through the Arashiyama area, where nature, temples, riverside paths, and small shops come together to create Kyoto’s distinct sense of place. Depending on the final flow, we may include time around Tenryu-ji Temple, the riverside, or nearby local streets.

The afternoon is free to explore Kyoto at your own pace. You may walk along the Philosopher’s Path, visit additional temples, enjoy a quiet café, shop for local crafts, or join an optional samurai or cultural experience.

    Meals included: Breakfast

  • Our final full day is designed to slow down and reflect on the journey.

Spend the morning on a relaxed cultural walk through one of Kyoto’s quieter areas — perhaps along a river, temple path, or historic neighborhood. This is a chance to notice the smaller details that make Kyoto memorable: wooden facades, garden walls, seasonal plants, local shops, and the calm rhythm of the city.

The afternoon is free for your own final discoveries. You may return to a favorite neighborhood, shop for gifts, visit a temple, or simply enjoy a slow café moment before the journey comes to a close.

In the evening, we gather for a farewell dinner to celebrate the places we visited, the stories we shared, and the connections made throughout the trip.

    Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

  • After breakfast, depart individually from Kyoto or Osaka.
Your Goodmate host will assist with departure logistics if needed.
